George Gaissert 1486

George Brooks Gaissert, 78, of Rock Hill, South Carolina, peacefully passed away on Tuesday February 14, 2023, at White Oak Manor in Rock Hill, SC. after a suffering a severe stroke in September.

Born November 25, 1944, in Griffin, Georgia, Gaissert was the son of the late George Clark Gaissert and the late Mary Phillips Gaissert of Griffin, Georgia. He was also preceded in death by his sister Georgia Gaissert.

Mr. Gaissert was a 1966 graduate of Auburn University where he majored in accounting and received his master’s degree in marketing from Georgia State University.

George served as a Lieutenant and Captain in the Army Air Corp in DaNang, Vietnam in 1968-1969 where he earned the Bronze Star with Valor, Flying Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Aviator Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Medal W.12 OLC, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Upon his return to the United States, he was stationed to Ft. Huachuca, Arizona until he was honorably discharged in December of 1970.

He pursued a career as a controller in various automobile dealerships. In 1979, George and his family moved to Beaumont, Texas where he was the Comptroller and Vice President of the R Corporation.  He was active in the Lion’s Club and Rotary Club in Beaumont and a member of the Presbyterian church. He retired from the R Corporation in 1998. The summer of 2013 George decided he needed a new career and chose to drive a school bus for Union County, North Carolina.  He retired from his second career in June of 2021.

George is survived by his wife of 55 years, Stephanie Evans Gaissert, three children: Kevin C. Gaissert (Michelle Noblitt Gaissert) of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Blythe Gaissert Levitt (Louis Levitt) of Bronx New York, and Brooks Gaissert of Matthews, North Carolina, and four grandchildren Mary Elizabeth and Katie Gaissert and Ian and Walker Levitt. He is also survived by his sister, Mary Gaissert Jackson of Opelousas, Louisiana, and many nieces and nephews. He loved being busy and feeling useful, watching PBS, listening to classical music, but most of all loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. He will be greatly missed as the leader of our family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in George’s name to Saint Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Channel WTVI PBS Television in Charlotte, North Carolina, SCETV PBS television in Columbia, South Carolina.

A Celebration of Life for George will be held at Greene’s Funeral Home on Ebenezer in Rock Hill on May 6, 2023, from 3:00 to 4:30.
