RECON MISSION

While serving as the Admin NCO for Det 2, 834 AirDiv at Cam Ranh Bay in 1971, I had the honor to accompany CW2 Fressland on a recon mission. Fressland was the son of Col. Fressland the commander of Det 2. (Renowned for dropping the infamous Daisy Cutter bomb.) One day, Col Fressland and his OV-1 pilot son came to my office with an extra flight helmet and announced that I would be accompanying his son on a mission. I was very impressed with the maneuverability of the OV-1 (I became air sick after a vertical dive to take photos and was handed a navigation map to use as an air sickness bag.) After releasing my stomach distress, I throughly enjoyed the rest of the flight.
