I have been writing about aviation for more than forty years, specializing in Army Aviation with three books on the AH-1 Cobra, two on the 82nd Airborne and one about Fort Bragg itself. There have also been books about the OV-10 Bronco, the British Fleet Air Arm, and countless magazine articles.

I’ve spent the last two years researching the Mohawk. Thanks to the enthusiasm and support of the Association and its members the resulting book should be available shortly. While there are of course personal experiences within the narrative, it focuses on the 60-year history of the aircraft itself, from its complex origins, through keeping vigil around the world to combat operations in Vietnam and Desert Storm (the latter recounted in full for possibly the first time). There are also details of the many trials and projects associated with the Mohawk, anti-narcotics and civil assistance roles, test flying, foreign use, inter-service rivalry and even water skiing! Over 400 fully-captioned photographs and specially-commissioned art-work illustrate the book.

It has been a real privilege drawing together the many disparate (and often previously classified) strands of a story that I hope will stand as a tribute to both a truly remarkable aircraft and the generations of people who gave it life.
